Beijing Bulletin (IANS) Wednesday 22nd February, 2012

China Wednesday allocated 120 million yuan ($19 million) for drought-hit areas in the southwestern part of the country.

The funds will help secure food and drinking water supplies, Xinhua reported.

The Yunnan province has been hit by drought since December, affecting over six million people and 1.5 million livestock.

About 650,000 hectares of crops were destroyed, causing about 2.3 billion yuan of economic losses.
